The Initiative to immortalize the legacies from Nanaimo's sports community was launched in 2008 and recognizes achievement in five categories - Athlete, Builder, Media, Pioneer, and Team. It is located in the Museum lobby and is free for all to see.
A total of four new inductees were honoured at the Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in the Nanaimo Museum Gallery on Saturday, September 22, 2012.
2013 Wally Buono Award Ceremony
The Wally Buono Award Recepient for 2012 is VI Raiders Quarterback Jordan Yantz! We are please to host the invitation-only award ceremony here at the Nanaimo Museum this March. The Museum recently became the home of this prestigious national award thanks to an exciting collaboration with the St. Marche family and the St. Bernard Pass Charitable Foundation.
